Canadian Members Share Chili Cookoff
Event includes curry, bunco and singing.

CANADA—Fifty-five members from the Milton and London congregations of the Philadelphia Church of God attended their annual chili cookoff and bunco night on January 30.

Sixteen chilies and four curries were judged by sight, smell and taste. While the judges savored the entries, members conversed amid fireside decorations in the hall.

Member Melisa Sukhdeo won first place for the best curry. The first place award for best chili went to local senior Gabriella Szilveszter, second place went to member Mary Ann McCullough, and third place went to member Cathy Di Santo.

After the chili cook-off, members played two rounds of bunco, a game of dice.

“The fact that you switch partners every turn makes bunco especially enjoyable,” Milton single Daniel Di Santo said.

The award for most buncos went to member Catherine Birkle, and the winner of the most rounds was 4-year-old Abida Grandinetti.

“In the world, it is all about competition,” Milton member Rejean Boucher said. “Here, the family just has fun together as a team. It’s refreshing.”

During the evening, deacon Dan Gauvreau also gathered the congregation together to film a cover of the Young Ambassadors’ song “Family,” eliciting an occasional off-key note and frequent laughter.
