SOUTH AFRICA—As the morning mist began to rise on September 7, six members of the Cape Town congregation gathered at Constantia Nek for a two-hour hike in the forest and mountains.
“There was a good spirit and atmosphere amongst us as we walked,” teen Henry Simpson said.
The hike ended at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, one of the most highly acclaimed botanical gardens in the world. Members shared a picnic lunch next to the eastern slopes of Table Mountain.
“We realize how fearfully and wonderfully we are made when we’re in nature,” event organizer Jonathan Airdien said.
Members took the opportunity to walk around the gardens, learn more about flora, and experience the newly constructed Boomslang Treetop Canopy Walk. The group chatted and relaxed over a cup of coffee at one of the restaurants before hiking back down.
“I loved being outdoors in God’s creation,” member Tessa van Heerden said.
As the slightly sunburned members prepared to leave, Local Church Elder Bernard Wakelin thanked everyone for contributing to the success of the activity.
