OHIO—On Sunday, June 28, 52 Niles Spokesman Club members and ladies attended a Victorian era-themed ladies’ gala at the home of Pastor Brian Davis and his wife, Gwen. In addition to formal attire, ladies donned Victorian-styled fascinators and hats while men wore tuxedos, with one gentleman even wearing a top hat.
“I believe it was fun for the ladies to be able to dress up that way,” Mr. Davis said, “but also, it brought a touch of royalty and David’s throne into everyone’s minds in a unique way. We’re continually working on etiquette, diplomacy and raising our standard, and this event certainly highlighted those elements and attributes for the men and the ladies.”
A lively topics session was followed by a meal during which laughter and fellowship echoed over the millennial outdoor setting as guests ate and enjoyed the scenery.
Sunlight broke through the clouds during the second half of the meeting as four speakers informed, entertained, and inspired the audience. After Mr. Davis gave brief evaluations of each speech, he awarded certificates to this year’s graduates: Stephen Coppola and Nathan Weese. He then announced next year’s club officers before giving a short lecture summarizing seven lessons members should take away from this year’s club season.
Spokesman Club president Nathan Weese said, “The gala was a great opportunity to show the ladies what we’ve been working on this club season. Over the course of this year, the men have worked hard on being more attentive to detail and fulfilling their assignments with greater accuracy.” The gala also served as an introduction for recently-moved Preaching Elder Dwight Falk and his wife, Becky, as their first time attending the Niles Spokesman Club.
After the event ended, club members and ladies gathered on the porch for more fellowship, played croquet in the yard, and took couple’s photos around the pond. Mr. Davis also remarked that his favorite aspect of the day was the opportunity it provided for “the Family of God to grow closer together, stronger, and more and more united.”
