CANADA—Seventy-six brethren from four congregations came together to enjoy the annual East Canada Winterlude weekend, hosted by the Milton congregation from February 14-16.
After a live Sabbath service, members enjoyed a potluck before they put on their thinking caps and participated in a number of lively “Family Feud” games.
Member David Blondeau said the game was “full of smiles, laughter and unity.”
The next day, members met at the Canada regional office for brunch before taking a trip to a natural history museum via an escape-room style board game, The Mysterious Museum. Members worked together to solve riddles before prizes were handed out. Following that, the congregation had a fun show, also for the first time. Acts included poetry and Shakespeare recitations, musical performances, an Irish dance reel and a skit.
Member Julie Birkle remarked, “We saw some accomplished singers, budding instrumentalists, singers, and dancers, and also some good ol’ down-home fun that made us belly laugh and tap our feet!”
The weekend concluded on Monday with a hockey game and a free skate for those wanting to get out on the ice. Afterward, members enjoyed a chili lunch and fellowship at the Schlote home.
Despite the chilly winter season, members stayed warm and energized during the weekend.
Member Laskey Hart said, “I think the Winterlude weekend does a wonderful job of creating quite a Feast-like atmosphere in the depths of winter.”
The event included several firsts. Renae and Oliver Schlote said this year was their first time skating on a rink. It was Simeon Zekic’s first time delivering a recitation in a fun show and Phyllis Murray’s first time playing an escape-room style board game. Members said they eagerly anticipate next year’s Winterlude experience and trying more new activities.
