MARYLAND—On February 7, the Frederick Spokesman Club hosted a ladies’ night. Twenty-two attendees were present at the Saturday evening event, including Local Elder David Miller and his wife, Denise.
The evening opened with a prayer given by sergeant-at-arms Roy Frederick and continued with a rousing vocal exercise session by John Hawkins. Club president Luis Rosario remarked on the club theme, “Rising Lions,” by focusing attendees on the “Power of Our Pride.” He said, “Jesus Christ is our Head Lion, and we are his bride—His lion pride! And with God, this pride has a lot of power!”
Nathaniel Chukwurah led a table topics session that included questions about the 250th anniversary of the United States, the World Economic Forum in Davos, and President Trump’s reaction to the Minneapolis immigration enforcement crisis. Mr. Miller, the associate director for the club, evaluated the first half of the session, and participants then enjoyed a selection of red and white wines accompanied by a variety of fine cheeses, fruit, meat and other hors d’oeuvres.
In the second half, toastmaster Errol Bernard introduced three speakers to the attentive audience, who spoke about how to build a home, appreciating the life of a hummingbird and how to build a creative mind.
Anne Marie Frederick, who has attended these events previously, said she enjoyed the food and being in an organized environment together with the men and other ladies. “The extra camaraderie, coupled with hearing the men’s speeches and witnessing their improvements from last year, was wonderful.”
Mr. Miller delivered the second-half evaluation, announced speech and evaluation award winners and concluded with a lecture encouraging members to fight for their marriage and fight for their children.
The night ended with laughs and a group photo before departing into the frigid night air to return home safely.
