Northeast Members Leave the ‘Comfort Zone’

PENNSYLVANIA–On February 16 and 17, 146 Philadelphia Church of God members from the top of Maine down to the bottom of Virginia congregated in Gordonville, Pennsylvania, for a weekend of education and family-building fun.

Meeting in the heart of Amish country, brethren first heard a sermonette from Preaching Elder Eric Burns reminding them that God first loved us, emphasizing the need to put that same love into practice towards others. In his sermon, Regional Director Brian Davis expounded on 2 Corinthians 13:5 in light of the upcoming Passover. He emphasized the need for deep examination.

After a hearty potluck dinner, attendees enjoyed riotous laughter and bonding while playing the match game, where, ironically, the group of children bested 11 other groups. Members said they enjoyed seeing everyone come out of their comfort zone to give answers.

Sunday morning activities began with an exceptionally moving rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” led by Louis Rosario and a model airplane flyover by Local Elder Calvin Culpepper to open the pine car derby. Other activities throughout the day included table games, kids games, cornhole, catered lunch and dinner and the always-popular and hard-fought ping-pong tournament.

Member Kishaw Hallmark said she loved “being with my brothers and sisters, united in what we believe and in everything that makes a family.”
