The most emotional experience I’ve ever had in my life is when I watched my two children being born. It is so moving and so emotional, it almost overwhelms you.
There is a spiritual vision behind human reproduction that very few people understand. In fact, our society is dominated by a belief in evolution, which removes real meaning from human existence altogether.
Evolutionists say there must be a missing link between animal and man, which they say is merely “the highest animal.” They have never found that link, yet they continue to believe in evolution in blind faith.
What I want to show you also takes faith to believe, but not blind faith. You can, and you must, prove every single word of it.
There is a devil, and he has inspired evolution and its attempt to link man with dumb animals. But man is not related to animals. We should not be looking down to animals for where we came from. We should be looking up!
The missing link to man’s origins is Jesus Christ! But He doesn’t link us to the animals—He links us to God the Father! Jesus Christ is going to use the power of the Holy Spirit to bring us into the God Family. That is the missing link. And it is precisely why Satan wants to deceive human beings about their origins!
People scoff at you if you have faith in this truth, yet they have faith in a missing link that has never been found and has never existed. They have never found an intermediate fossil, half-bird and half-man, or half-fish and half-man. They have hypotheses as to why that’s the case, but they are going out of their way to link us to beasts instead of to the great God.
Sacred Meaning of Reproduction
People who believe in evolution can’t really explain sex. They believe that it has no real purpose beyond reproduction and that reproduction has no real purpose.
But sex and reproduction in human beings is a sacred, God-plane relationship! Man is unique on Earth. Human beings are far greater than animals, and sex and reproduction in human beings are far greater than what they are in animals.
I don’t think there is any subject deeper than this one! All people need to understand the God-level purpose of marriage, family, sex and reproduction!
God the Father is building a family, and He chooses who will be His children and who will not. Christ said nobody can come to God unless God the Father draws him (John 6:44). Romans 8:14-17 describe human beings being begotten sons of God.
Children are conceived through the sex act. That is how every human being comes into existence. How are God’s children conceived? They are begotten when God the Father puts His Holy Spirit in them! That is how true Christians are spiritually begotten. The conceiving of children through the sex act pictures our being conceived spiritually by the Holy Spirit, which is the power of God!
This world is deceived, not just about the “missing link,” but about the very central, crucial beauty and purpose of sex! God created us, and He created sex. He created it to be used to build human families. And as beautiful as that is, God wants us to focus on what sex and reproduction ultimately represent: building the God Family!
The deep meaning doesn’t end there. In human reproduction, a child is conceived in the womb of the woman. The mother has that little child in her body, in the best place to protect it from physical harm. Her body nourishes and feeds that child, and it undergoes a period of growth inside her before it is finally born. This is an exact picture of what happens spiritually. Throughout the Bible, a woman is used as a type of the Church. After God begets an individual with His Holy Spirit, we have a period of gestation during which we are nourished and grow inside the spiritual mother, the Church. Ephesians 4:11-13 describe God’s true ministers being careful to feed and protect the flock, the unborn saints. The Church teaches, counsels and nourishes that little spiritual embryo so he or she can grow in grace and in knowledge (2 Peter 3:18), until fully developed in the same character that God has, when he or she is finally born into the Family of God!
Do you grasp that? You have to stretch your mind some. Physical reproduction in your family—your origin and the origin of every human being—is a continuous witness that human beings are going to be born into the Family of God! If you understand the purpose for sex, marriage and family, that vision remains right before you all the time!
What an illustrious, magnificent purpose for sex, marriage and family! And when a little child emerges from the mother’s womb, that pictures the salvation of man! Considering how emotional it is seeing a little child born physically, what will it be like to see Spirit beings born into the Family of God? How magnificent!
Beware of other “women,” other churches, that teach you false doctrines about God and His plan. Jesus Christ specifically said to beware false prophets who claim to be—and appear to be—Christian (Matthew 7:15; 24:4-5). Once you know the truth, they are a real danger that can take you away from your Husband, Jesus Christ.
Marriage
Sex leads to the birth of children. Doesn’t that mean there is something sacred about sex?
The Apostle Paul wrote, “For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:2). God wants our bodies and our attitudes to be pure!
Now consider this question: If reproducing our kind is the only purpose for sex, why did God have us marry? Animals reproduce their kind. They don’t marry. If reproduction is the only purpose for sex, then there is no point to marriage.
Yet God created us to marry.
Perhaps the supreme reason we marry is that it constantly teaches us and reminds us about our sacred relationship to Jesus Christ. The human marriage pictures the marriage of God’s Church to Christ. If you understand this major reason for marriage, it will make your marriage work beautifully and help your children develop beautifully.
If you want a happy, successful physical marriage and family, you must know the spiritual purposes of why marriage and family. Master this truth, and you can have the most wonderful, joyful marriage you could ever dream about, if you and your spouse do it God’s way. If you are a young person, realize how important this aspect of your life is! It is a great challenge for a young person to understand this, but it is worth it!
Look at what Paul wrote about marriage in Ephesians 5:21-32: “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. … For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.”
Paul here described in detail how to make a marriage work. Yet he said the marriage he was really talking about was to Jesus Christ. The truth is, if we keep God’s laws in our physical human marriages, we will ultimately marry Jesus Christ!
Notice how Herbert W. Armstrong emphasized this: “For this cause—because of the coming marriage (spiritually) between Christ and the Church—because the Church is, now, the affianced Bride, engaged to marry Christ—for this reason,God ordained the marriage institution for humans! But not animals! Not for angels!” (The Missing Dimension in Sex). God made marriage for this cause: the coming marriage of the Church to Jesus Christ!
Revelation 19:7 describes the time when Christ’s “wife hath made herself ready.” Are you ready to marry and accompany a perfect Husband who died for you and does everything He can for you? To be a part of that marriage, you must be making yourself ready!
Colossal Truth!
Why human marriage? Because the Church is going to marry Jesus Christ! Why human family? Because human beings are going to enter the God Family!
A husband and wife create a family, and that is exactly what God is doing: creating a Family! True Christians are developing in godly character, letting God create them in His own image! They are in the process of being created as God’s Family!
Truly understanding this will take all the study and mental energy you can exert. Study it in detail and you will learn the most marvelous truth you can ever learn! That is why we fought in court for six years to be able to print and freely distribute Mr. Armstrong’s books, including The Missing Dimension in Sex.
“So grasp this colossal truth, if you can!” Mr. Armstrong wrote. “Here is the greatest truth you can ever know! Man, and man only, of all life forms God has created, can be born into the God Family—the Kingdom of God! Animals have never been given family relationships. Angels have never enjoyed family status. The family relationship is a God-plane relationship—not an angel-plane relationship. And God bestowed it on man! Because man is to be born into the God Family.
“Of all life forms—whether plant, animal or angel in all of God’s creation—man alonewas created for marriage, for home, and for family life!” (ibid).
You have the potential to marry Jesus Christ. If you understand that and you obey that today before He gets here, you will be part of the Bride of Christ.
When you think about what marriage really means, it just about overwhelms you. God the Father wants Christ to have a wife, so He created physical marriage to prepare human beings for that spiritual marriage. The Father wants a family, so He created human family to prepare mankind for entrance into His Family. God is giving us everything!
To make marriage work, we need this understanding! We must work to gain it. We also need God’s love, which is what makes a marriage truly work. The world calls lust “love,” but that is self-gratifying and destructive to marriage. We don’t have God’s love naturally. God is love (1 John 4:8 and 16), and the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by His Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). Only God can give it to us—in fact, only He can even define it. He does that in His law: “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments …” (1 John 5:3).
Ephesians 5 shows us the spiritual laws governing how physical marriages work. Notice that verse 25 states that men should love their wives “even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.” That points to the purpose of marriage: marriage to Jesus Christ. And it shows us that we must have completely unselfish, sacrificing love that comes only from God, or we cannot love our wives this way, which means we cannot keep this command—which means our marriages cannot work as God intends. God must give us this love!
God the Father and Jesus Christ have been together for eternity. And throughout eternity they have never disagreed, experienced problems or fought. Their very way of life is love! When they decided to create man, they said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness …” (Genesis 1:26). They did it together in love. This way has kept them unified in peace throughout eternity. Men have had war and fighting throughout human history because they don’t have that love. God wants to give us that love—the only love that will make your marriage work as it should. Marriage can be good on a human level, but it will never be great until you get God’s love and love your mate the way God loves you.
