What will your future be like? Your future is in the World Tomorrow. But this vision—this world that does not yet exist—can be difficult to visualize. It is hard to make it real. That is exactly why God brings you to the Feast of Tabernacles. But did you realize He gives you something else to make your future even more real to you? It doesn’t last one week—it lasts all year.
I’m talking about your family. Your family is actually a miniature Kingdom of God!
The father in a family is a type of Jesus Christ. The mother is a type of God’s Church. And you are a type of the subjects who will grow up under the rule of that Kingdom!
There’s an awesome vision here that is worth devoting serious thought to. Just like God wants to bring the vision of tomorrow’s world to life at the Feast, He wants you to make that vision in your own home.
The Feast of Tabernacles is always the highlight of our year. It gives us a taste of how wonderful the Kingdom of God will be, because everyone will be living God’s family way of life! The Feast is all about family. The reason for that is that God’s Kingdom is all about family!
So if you want to set up your personal Millennium right in your own home, here is how to do it: Take all the principles God will use in His Family, and use them in your family! Take the principles God will use in His Kingdom, and use them in your kingdom! Think about what life will be like in God’s Kingdom, with God’s government in place on a worldwide scale, and strive to put that way into practice in the way you fulfill your role at home.
What is the best way you can help set up your personal Millennium at home? It may sound unrealistic, but it’s true: Be an obedient, royal subject.
It won’t be just godly leadership that makes the Millennium so special. It will also be obedient subjects. No matter how righteous the leadership is, you cannot have happiness if the people do not obey.
The Bible contains some awesome descriptions about how the people, the subjects, will seek out righteous leadership in God’s Kingdom. They will grab hold of those who know God’s way (Zechariah 8:23; Isaiah 55:5; 60:3). “And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem” (Isaiah 2:3).
That is the type of attitude you should have toward your parents. Have you ever thought of it this way before?
The foundation for the way of life people will live in God’s Kingdom is the fear of God. This means a deep, abiding respect (e.g. Jeremiah 32:39-40). Proverbs 9:10 says the fear of God—the respect and honor of God—is the beginning of wisdom. Proverbs 10:27 says the fear of God prolongs days. Proverbs 14:27 says the fear of God is a fountain of life! This right perspective toward God is the source of so many blessings that will come in the World Tomorrow!
How does God respond to those who fear Him? “Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul” (Jeremiah 32:41). God always responds to this type of attitude with blessings.
The interesting thing is, God makes that same promise if you fear, respect and honor your parents! It’s written right into the Ten Commandments: “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee” (Exodus 20:12).
What is the primary way you can demonstrate that honor and respect for your parents? Paul gives the answer in his letter to the Ephesian brethren: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right” (Ephesians 6:1). He then quotes the Fifth Commandment and reiterates the promise of long life.
This attitude of royal obedience is the single most important quality you can have in your youth. And the beautiful thing is, the more obedient you are, the more millennial your family life will be!
I challenge you: If you want to contribute to making your home a personal Millennium, be obedient.
Live the vision of tomorrow’s world today—and enjoy your personal Millennium.
