EDMOND—Laughter, cheering and applause rippled across the headquarters campus of the Philadelphia Church of God on September 6 among scores of children, college students, adults and seniors at the congregation’s Labor Day weekend picnic.
Members gathered beneath the awning at the John Amos Field House as seniors began their cornhole tournament. Meanwhile, teens and singles played frisbee golf on the campus’s new course that was first set up for this summer’s youth camp. Meanwhile, happy shouts could be heard as little children broke a sweat on an inflatable obstacle course.
After conversation over a pot-luck meal, teenagers, singles and college students played wacky games calls like three-legged races, fill the bucket challenges and potato sack races. Ministers in the congregation competed against dozens of small children, the latter of whom won for the second straight year. The day wrapped up with a balloon toss and dessert.
