Orientation
August 10-11, 2020
Herbert W. Armstrong College orientation consists of two days of lectures from the chancellor, dean of students, assistant dean of students and other faculty about pursuing academic excellence, codes of conduct, student work assignments, caring for the campus and other subjects.
Freshman Reception
August 11, 2020
The last day of orientation concludes with an evening reception hosted by the sophomore class to welcome the freshmen to Herbert W. Armstrong College. The event includes a meal, and each new student introducing himself or herself with a short speech describing his or her background and goals for college.
Midterms
October 26-30, 2020
Herbert W. Armstrong College students take mid-semester examinations for each class, this year students will take them in October for the fall semester and February for the spring semester. The exam results form a large portion of the students’ grades.
Final Exams
December 16-22, 2020
Herbert W. Armstrong College students take examinations at the end of each semester. The examinations come after term papers and projects are completed, and students work fewer hours in the student-work program in order to take extra time to study. The exam results form a large portion of the students’ grades.
Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer Recesses
September 23-October 14, 2020; December 23-January 5, 2021; March 25-April 7, 2021; June 1, 2021
The schedule for Herbert W. Armstrong College students includes four built-in school recesses during the four seasons of the year: fall, winter, spring and summer. These breaks from school are designed to give the students a respite from their normal busy class schedule. The students may use some of these days to take a vacation (they are allowed ten days each year), otherwise they are expected to work forty-hour weeks in their respective campus jobs. This allows the students to pay off their student bill during their college experience and potentially graduate debt free.
Turnabout
November 6-8, 2020; April 9-11, 2021
Each semester, female students at Herbert W. Armstrong College have an opportunity to ask male students on dates during Turnabout Weekend. Each student has a different date for each of the three days included in Turnabout, and the women plan dinners, outings and other events on campus, at the homes of faculty or local church members, or in the community.
Thanksgiving Ball
November 22, 2020
Prior to Thanksgiving Day in late November, students and faculty attend Thanksgiving Ball. The senior class organizes the menu, setup, decorations, dance music and other details for this event. Male students ask female students for a date and escort them to the ball, a festive event focusing on gratitude for the abundance Herbert W. Armstrong College students enjoy.
Speech Banquet
February 14, 2021
The annual Herbert W. Armstrong College speech banquet showcases the best results of the college’s speech program. Prior to the event, speech faculty selects students to participate in “speak-offs,” and chooses a handful to speak at the banquet. The banquet is organized by the sophomore class and is attended by students and faculty.
College Campout
March 4-8, 2021
The annual campout at an Oklahoma state park is one of the highlights of the year for the Herbert W. Armstrong College student body. The five-day campout offers all students, most faculty and some alumni a break from the normal routine of classes, work and extra-curricular events. Students hike, play board games, chat by the campfire, play sports, read, and enjoy other relaxing activities.
Graduation Ball
May 6, 2021
At graduation ball, two-year and four-year students are honored by students, faculty and alumni prior to commencement. Hosted by the freshman and junior classes at John Amos Field House, the event typically includes introduction of the sophomores and seniors, a retrospective slideshow, toasts by the college student body president, dean of students and assistant dean of students, food and dancing.
Graduation Day
May 9, 2021
Graduation recognizes the achievements of two-year graduates and four-year graduates. Prior to commencement exercises, graduating students and their families share a traditional graduation brunch with faculty members at the John Amos Field House, hosted by the freshman and junior classes. Afternoon commencement exercises include an address by the student body president, music by the college’s choral union and the Armstrong Youth Orchestra, a commencement address by the chancellor, dean of students or president of the college, one or more Armstrong Awards recognizing achievements by senior(s), and the conferring of the two-year and four-year diplomas.
