CHICAGO—On the picture-perfect Sunday of Aug. 12, 2018, about 50 members of the Chicago congregation gathered in the Wooddale Grove Preserve for a summer picnic consisting of grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob and plenty of side dishes, salads, and desserts. The event was organized by Deacon and Deaconess Jim and Terry Privratsky.

The decorations followed a Hawaiian theme; the ladies were each given silk flower clips for their hair and the men were encouraged to wear colorful “Aloha” shirts. During the noon meal, brethren enjoyed listening to luau music in the background.

Afterward, there were games, including three-legged races, sack races, volleyball and bingo. Prizes were awarded to winners. At the end of the day, some of the brethren commented on the wonderful time they had.

Member Sally McCombs, a former Chicagoan visiting from Washington, said, “The Hawaiian theme, the array of food, bingo, and fellowship was the best.”

Richard Hanley stated, “The location added to the enjoyment.” Reagan Anderson added, “The games were great and fellowship was fantastic!”
