Florida South Congregation Rakes in Money at Annual Yard Sale

FLORIDA—Eighteen members of the Florida South congregation of the Philadelphia Church of God held their annual yard sale fundraiser on July 16 at the Trading Post and Farmers Market in Okeechobee.

A sudden influx of customers purchased scores of items before the pcg volunteers, including Preaching Elder John Cocomise, could finish setting up displays. Everything from rugs to computer hardware flew off the shelves throughout the morning and into the afternoon.

“According to the locals, this time of year is usually slow for business, but we managed to pull it off,” member Susan Kawalek said. “We had a complete commitment from the brethren and our ministers, which made this [fundraiser] even greater for God’s Work.”

“This fundraiser was a good time to get rid of stuff around the house, support the Work, practice negotiating skills and spend time with the brethren,” member Dan Floyd said.

The handful of remaining unsold items was repacked and donated to the Okeechobee Goodwill Center. By the end of the activity, the volunteers had amassed over $1,280.
