OHIO—Eight teens from the Cincinnati-Dayton congregation of the Philadelphia Church of God hosted a Senior Legacy Luncheon on April 30 for 38 seniors. The theme of the event was the legacy of Herbert W. Armstrong.
Local Church Elder Larry Walker kicked off the event with opening comments connecting the pcg to Mr. Armstrong’s legacy.
The teens served the seniors their food and drinks throughout the event. “I can’t believe they went through all of this trouble for us,” senior Loyal Sander said.
Several of the teens provided entertainment. Kansas Creager performed a piano solo, Hailey Sander danced an Irish jig, and Griffen Sander played a harmonica solo. Then the teens read biographies about several of the seniors whom they had researched prior to the luncheon.
“That was such an amazing experience,” Creager said. “I felt so energetic and happy to be able to serve the seniors and see their smiles when we got to read the biographies we wrote about them.”
The event concluded with a short lecture from Northeast United States Regional Director Cal Culpepper on the importance of the bond between teens and seniors in the Church.
“The teens need the seniors, and the seniors need the teens,” Mr. Culpepper said. “The teens need the seniors for stability, and the seniors need the teens for their youth and vitality.”
