FLORIDA—About 20 members of the Florida South and Florida Central congregations of the Philadelphia Church of God served concessions at Hard Rock Stadium during seven Miami Dolphins games throughout the 2016–2017 National Football League season. Some volunteers drove as far as five hours to serve at the games, which took place from October to December 2016. It was the second pcg fall fundraising campaign at the stadium.
Volunteers were required to arrive and check in no later than 8:30 a.m. for each game. At the stadium Local Church Elder and concession stand manager Iain Harper reminded the members that the goal of the fundraiser was twofold: to put their hearts and efforts behind God’s Work, and to make an impact on the community by letting their light shine while serving hotdogs, nachos, popcorn, pretzels, beer and soda.
Teenager Sharon Goddard said, “Working the games was really fun because we got to spend time with the brethren outside of services,” teenager Sharon Goddard said. “It was also a great learning experience because we got to work with different types of people and serve.”
Stadium management commented that the pcg group was “the most dedicated and hardworking group” they had ever worked with, and that they “walked away highly impressed” with how the volunteers worked together and managed the concession stand.
“When we serve our Father as we did at the football games, we learn to give, share, encourage, sacrifice and shine as Christ did, all so that we can learn to be more like Him …,” Florida South member Elio Patino said.
From the seven football games, the volunteers raised a total of $8,257.25 for God’s Work.
