CANADA—Around 65 members of the Milton and London congregations of the Philadelphia Church of God participated in a French café-themed pine car derby and silent auction on Dec. 24, 2016, in Milton.
As members entered the hall, a café host greeted them with “menus” to use for registering their cars for the race. Heat after heat, 47 cars competed for the top prize, racing down the “streets” of Paris and whizzing past paper houses and trees that decorated both sides of the racetrack.
Halfway through the event, a small boutique opened for business. Customers placed bids in a silent auction to raise money for the pcg building fund.
Builders of the three most creative cars and the three fastest cars received medals and trophies at the end of the event.
“It was an exciting event, and the announcers were very entertaining, especially with their French accents and stories,” local deaconess Elaine Armstrong said. “It was also enjoyable seeing how excited the youth got, some not even three years old, when they had an opportunity to pull the handle and send the cars down the track.”
