Q: What is the tithe?

Answer:

A tithe is a tenth of one’s earned income that belongs to God (Leviticus 27:30-32). God uses the tenth He claims for Himself for proclaiming to the world His gospel of peace, joy, happiness, prosperity and eternal life. Christ upheld the law of tithing in Matthew 23:23, telling us not to “leave paying our tithes undone.”

Tithing is a part of God’s “give” way of life. Tithing is also an act of faith in God, and when done in faith, it is a deeply personal act of worship. It is an acknowledgment that God is there—that He really exists—and that He is able to “supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
