FLORIDA—Around 100 members of the Philadelphia Church of God camped along the banks of the Suwanee River at Camp Anderson from May 8 to 10 for the Florida family campout.
Camp Anderson provided campers with tent or RV sites or even log cabins equipped with bathrooms and air conditioning, all within walking distance of the river and meeting pavilion.
Regional Director Cal Culpepper set the tone for the campout with a Bible study titled “The Spirit of Finishing God’s Work.” For Sabbath services the next day, the congregation listened to Pastor General Gerald Flurry’s sermon about Amos 7.
“The messages we received from God’s apostle and [Mr.] Culpepper filled us with a strong sense of how fast this work is moving ahead and the shortness of time we have to conquer and to finish this work,” camper Darlene Baker of the Georgia South congregation said.
After the sun set, foosball, ping pong and pool tables brought members together inside while a large group dispersed into the darkness for a game of Capture the Flag.
The next morning, members participated in watersports on the Suwanee, volleyball or a walk on the grounds.
A different crew manned the camp kitchen for every meal, and the campers worked together to serve each other. The campsite dog, Trigger, made sure no scrap was left behind.
“From start to finish, the fellowship between all the members was like no other campout that I have attended,” Florida South member Zachary Yocum said. “My family is already looking forward to the next opportunity when we can build memories like this again.”
