AUSTRALIA—More than 60 members of the Brisbane congregation took part in a telephone book delivery fundraiser during February. Fifty-one members volunteered on February 2-3, and 61 members on February 16-17 to deliver Yellow Pages to addresses in the Brisbane suburbs.
Volunteers met at the distribution point at 8 a.m., where they divided into teams and received their street assignments in the towns of Oxley, Sherwood and Forest Lake. Trailers and 4x4s crawled down the streets as “runners” tucked as many books as they could carry under their arms, dropping them door-to-door as the drivers kept track of which homes had been completed.
“Our team found the two-story apartment complexes and homes with front gates and fences to be the most challenging, which meant our designated area took more time to do than expected,” Jo-Anne Robson said. Another nearby team helped finish the job.
“I really enjoyed being able to participate in this fundraiser and spend the day with other teens,” teen Benjamin Sherwood said.
“The barbecue at a member’s home afterwards was much appreciated to rest my feet and look back on a hard day’s work,” Holly Hudson commented.
Despite sore muscles, blisters and the occasional shoe-blowout among the phone book-toting foot-soldiers, the group delivered 13,752 phone books and raised $3,852 for the building fund.
