Johannesburg Youths Share Bowling, Picnic Activity

SOUTH AFRICA—Parents and their children from the Johannesburg congregation shared a bowling activity on February 9. For some of the children, it was their first opportunity to try tenpin bowling.

Parents gave their children a crash course in Bowling 101, and the youngsters enthusiastically took on the challenge. The adults noticed that none of the children cared about their scores. They were oblivious to the fact that they were even scoring as they knocked down pins; they were simply happy to spend time together.

“I learned to throw a ball with my own arm!” Zeo Smith said.

His older brother, John-Daniel, said, “If you bowl every day, you’ll get very fit.”

It was important to “listen to the instructions of the game,” Hope Githembe said.

After the last pin was toppled, families traveled to Delta Park, a large, wooded recreational area that included a bird sanctuary and an extensive children’s play area. The families shared a picnic under the trees, then the children clambered through the jungle gym to burn some more energy.
