SOUTH AFRICA—On November 23, 36 members of the Johannesburg congregation enjoyed a summer social and children’s activity at Delta Park in Randburg.
The plan was to enjoy a South African bring and braai (barbecue), watch a slideshow presentation of special Feast of Tabernacles moments captured at the African Feast site at Tshipise Forever Resort, and to play games outside.
Members arrived at the venue at 11 o’clock to heavy clouds and continuous rain, so they moved to plan B. Members gathered in the hall to enjoy a slideshow prepared by local member Divan Muller.
“The family day was exciting, as it helped keep the Feast alive with a slideshow presentation of the Feast of Tabernacles 2014,” member Clive Jordan said.
Afterward, children and women played board games, while the men went outside to braai the meat.
While members enjoyed lunch, God answered their prayers: rain and clouds made way for bright sunshine. After lunch, members went outside for a game of cricket.
“The family day was a lot of fun; we were playing board games while it rained and even had two seniors join us for one of the games,” 10-year-old Eden Smith said. “After God cleared the rainclouds away, there was an exciting and bountiful treasure hunt where each of the children found something.”
“The indoors games were so much fun; we did not want to stop,” member Trudi van Zyl said.
“Combining the family day with the children’s activity was a really super idea as there was a smorgasbord of fine fellowship, fun and laughter, good food and the best of company, with indoor games involving quick thinking and outdoor games requiring good eye-hand coordination and fast legs,” member Joh Smith said.
