Johannesburg Seniors and Singles Enjoy Games and Lunch

SOUTH AFRICA—Twenty-one brethren of the Johannesburg congregation gathered at Mrs. Sippi Blues restaurant for a luncheon and games afternoon on August 30 at Gillooly’s Farm in Bedfordview.

Event coordinator Quentin Morel opened the combined seniors’ and singles’ activity to the rest of the congregation, and two large families joined the fun.

Tables with umbrellas, set under the shade of the farm’s trees, overlooked a dam. A two-man band played relaxing background music, which 10-year-old Hope Githembe said she especially enjoyed.

“The children delighted in wholesome activities, from a game of UNO to thrilling rides in the playground,” single Ghina Trietsch said. “It was a day filled with enjoyment and unity.”

Members learned new board games and brushed up on their general knowledge with 30 Seconds, a team game similar to Charades. Local Elder George Githembe also taught members a new card game.

“The games were a great way to get people to interact and laugh together,” single Chantel van der Leeuw said.
