CANADA—The Smith Falls, London and Milton, Ontario, congregations hosted their year-end Spokesman Club dinner dance on the afternoon of May 25, capping off a club season with the theme “His Royal Majesty’s Officers Corp: For King and Kingdom of God.” A total of 70 spokesmen and guests attended the event is a highlight, a yearly highlight for local congregations.
Members decorated the hall with flowers, wood rounds, tea cups, pillars, cedar trees and Union Jack flags. In one corner, a makeshift throne of David served as a photo booth.
“The hall was elaborately decorated to the highest standard, which appropriately reflected our theme: ‘Britain and the Cedars of Lebanon,’” guest Johnathan Mansour said.
Club members and guests arrived early in the afternoon. The event began with a tabletopics session. After the break, five graduating club members had an opportunity to give speeches ranging from an “inspire” to a “get the facts” speech.
“It was great to see all five of the graduates give one final speech,” Milton club member George Robertson said. “There was less pressure, and they were each able to let their natural speaking styles come out even more. It is phenomenal to see how God’s club can change speakers over the course of 12 speeches.
“The various types of speeches helped my wife and other ladies present understand the variety of speeches that we do throughout the year in club and how each speech helps in developing into a complete speech,” Smith Falls club member Tony Chiasson said.
After evaluation of speeches and awarding of trophies, club director Timothy Oostendarp and Regional Director Fred Dattolo presented diplomas to the graduates—James Fuller, Marcello Sukhdeo, John Jones, Alex Lovell and Elvis Sankar.
Mr. Dattolo closed the session with a guest lecture about spiritual analogies between strong, deep-rooted cedars of Lebanon and qualities God wants from His people. He emphasized the need to not only develop deep roots, but also to grow upward and outward, applying instruction and reaching out to help others in order to become pillars for God.
A British-themed meal was served for dinner, including pot roast and a mixed berry trifle for dessert. The evening finished with a dance.
