In the book of Hebrews, Paul references several Old Testament scriptures. Many of these are quotations from the minor prophets and other biblical books about which God has given new revelation in this last era of the Church. Paul also references some interesting names with end-time prophetic significance.
This is still more evidence that Hebrews is for the end time just before Jesus Christ returns, specifically for the Philadelphia Church of God (pcg)!
God has revealed to me that all those scriptures and names are connected to the new throne of David. Clearly God wants us to learn this subject more deeply. I continually try to add to my understanding of this subject. There is tremendous depth here, and we need to probe into it more.
Here are some examples: Hebrews 10:37-38 are taken from Habakkuk 2, a chapter that speaks about the new stone and new throne of David that God has given us and our court battle in which God gave us Mystery of the Ages. Hebrews 11:5 mentions Enoch, which is really about God’s people going to a place of safety where they will have that new throne. Hebrews 12:25-26 quote Haggai, who prophesied about God shaking the heavens and Earth, which also connects to that throne, as I will show you. Hebrews 1:5 quotes the covenant God made with David about his throne in 2 Samuel 7.
All these scriptures have tremendous meaning to us in the pcg. It’s as if there is a hidden message to us. Not even Paul understood it—but of course, Jesus Christ and God the Father did. They knew what we would be doing in this end time.
Hebrews is the only epistle Paul wrote specifically to Jews. God’s Spirit-begotten saints are spiritual Jews—and this book really is aimed at the spiritual Jews today!
Hebrews 10:37-38
Here is what Paul wrote in Hebrews 10:37-38: “For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.”
He is quoting Habakkuk 2:3-4. These verses say in full, “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.”
Notice that Paul left out the beginning of verse 3: “For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie.” This vision is going to speak right at the end! This definitely applies to God’s Church today! We reference these verses all the time.
If there is any vision in the Bible that really speaks in this end time, it is verse 11 in this passage in Habakkuk! As I explain in detail in The New Throne of David, that verse is talking about a double wonder that God has given this Church.
At the end, all this is going to speak! Paul is talking in these verses about a sweeping, worldwide epic! This great epic was recorded in the Bible and passed down to us, yet most of it, Paul did not fully understand. God intended it to be fully understood in our day!
Paul quoted the “faith” part, which leads into Hebrews 11, the faith chapter. But God had him leave out the part about the vision for an appointed time, speaking at the end! This message is for us—and this is the time when the vision really speaks! There is no excuse for us not hearing that message today! And we have a responsibility to deliver this message to the world! It’s a message about the Laodicean rebellion, the court battle, and our receiving Mystery of the Ages and the new throne of David—the double wonder!
“[T]he just shall live by his faith,” Habakkuk 2:4 concludes. God’s people must live by our faith! God takes no pleasure in people who draw back, or who don’t walk by faith. “But without faith it is impossible to please him …” (Hebrews 11:6). We must have the faith to wait on God for the Second Coming. It will come—it will not tarry—yet we have to “wait for it.” Wait for the appointed time, and it absolutely will come! Don’t lose your faith. Everything else in that prophecy which precedes it has already come—so too will the Second Coming! We can have absolute confidence in that! There is an appointed time, and that time is getting awfully close!
The Double Wonder
At the beginning of his prophecy, Habakkuk describes a temple crisis—a serious disaster in this end time in God’s Church. “O Lord, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!” (Habakkuk 1:2). He couldn’t understand it, and asked how long God would let the destruction continue. We felt the same way as we watched the Laodiceans destroy everything Herbert W. Armstrong built! It was a real spiritual struggle.
Verse 3 describes injustice leading to a legal conflict—the court clash between the Worldwide Church of God (wcg) and the pcg revolving around Mystery of the Ages. (I explain this in my booklet on Habakkuk.) “Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth” (verse 4). The judges sided with the lawless Laodiceans, and justice was utterly perverted!
But amid the violence and tragedy, something wonderful happened! “Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvellously: for I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you” (verse 5). The Hebrew for wonder marvellously means a double wonder! Yet when you tell most people, they won’t believe it because they lack the faith to understand.
Throughout those events, God was telling us that though we would prevail, we would have to fight for it. We needed faith to win—but we still had to stand up and fight—for six grueling years! It will always be that way if we walk by faith.
This is the theme of Habakkuk, especially the first two chapters. God wants us to understand how determined Satan is to destroy God’s truth at every possible opportunity, and how fiercely we must resist him.
Every fiery trial is preparing us for our exalted future. How else could you be ready to sit on the very throne of Jesus Christ with Him, ruling the world and the universe? Knowing how prone we are to turn away from God, of course we need fiery trials to prepare for that rule!
The double wonder of Habakkuk 1:5 is explained in Habakkuk 2:11: “For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.” The first wonder is this “stone”—the new stone of destiny, Mr. Armstrong’s prayer rock (representing Christ; Genesis 49:24)—and the new throne of David that God has given us. The second wonder is the “beam”—something that brings us together and unifies us in our understanding of the Bible. This represents Mystery of the Ages and our court battle in which God gave us that book.
I think Habakkuk 2:11 is the most inspiring verse in the Bible. What an honor it is that Christ has given us Mystery of the Ages. We are truly honored to have it—and to have that new stone and new throne!
In Hebrews, Paul discussed Habakkuk 2 in the context of faith. God is opening up a coded message for us. It is focused on David’s throne, and that brings us into the picture as the sons of Zadok. God wants the new throne added to the book of Hebrews! It makes Hebrews much more meaningful. This epistle discusses what Jesus Christ is doing right now—and a big part of that involves Mystery of the Ages and the new throne of David.
Mystery of the Ages
Remember, Mr. Armstrong said Mystery of the Ages was “the largest and most important book of my life. In real fact, I feel I, myself, did not write it. Rather, I believe God used me in writing it. I candidly feel it may be the most important book since the Bible.” He said it makes your Bible “come alive and understandable.” In his 94th year, he finished this magnificent, majestic book, and said it was to reach “the largest audience possible” (co-worker letter, Sept. 12, 1985).
Then, four months later, he was dead.
Who, then, does the responsibility fall on to distribute this book to the largest audience possible? It is our responsibility! In many ways, this book was for this Church era!
The leaders who took control of the church after Mr. Armstrong died soon began saying things about that book that were wildly different from what Mr. Armstrong had said. When John Amos and I were fired, they told us the book was merely a compilation of articles Mr. Armstrong had already written. Soon after, they destroyed thousands of copies. They hated that book! Joe Tkach Jr. said its contents weren’t “central to our teachings” and that it was “riddled with error.” He later wrote, “We feel it is our Christian duty to keep this book out of print because we believe Mr. Armstrong’s doctrinal errors are better left out of circulation.” They didn’t want anybody to dare read it! That is the way Satan thinks. This man had the same problem Judas Iscariot had!
In the World Tomorrow, Mystery of the Ages will be the number one textbook after the Bible for the whole world. It reveals the whole Bible! First, people must understand the Bible, and they will never understand that until they understand Mystery of the Ages.
Mr. Armstrong said the truth in his book The United States and Britain in Prophecy was the strongest proof of the inspiration and authority of the Bible. It is the single greatest proof that the Bible is inspired by God! “It is, at the same time, the strongest proof of the very active existence of the living God!” he wrote in that book. Yet just a few years after Mr. Armstrong died, Joe Tkach Jr. said: “From a plan of salvation view, in light of the New Testament and the centrality of Christ in God’s plan of salvation as mentioned above, much of the relevance of our teaching on [The United States and Britain in Prophecy] is reduced to, so what?”
You must understand The United States and Britain in Prophecy, or you will never understand the new throne of David. As Mr. Armstrong’s book explains, Ezekiel 21:27 prophesies of three overturns, “and it shall be no more.” Well, what happens after that? The people who have the double wonder know the answer. The New Throne of David is a thrilling conclusion to The United States and Britain in Prophecy. It tells the rest of the story! And that revelation is for our time. “At the end it shall speak,” and is it ever speaking! We are transitioning into the return of Jesus Christ! He is about to sit on the throne that we already have in this Church!
Just three verses after Habakkuk 2:11, you have this vision: “For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea” (verse 14). Within three verses of the double wonder, God is talking about the Earth being filled with the knowledge of God! What a world that will be!
What knowledge will fill the Earth? The knowledge and doctrines in Mystery of the Ages! Mr. Armstrong restored all things! Also The United States and Britain in Prophecy will still be vital history people need. It describes many prophecies that have come to pass, and it talks about David’s throne going on forever. That book shows you that if God makes a prophecy, it will happen! Never doubt God! Know in faith that He will never, ever mislead you in the slightest way.
And if The New Throne of David is the conclusion to The United States and Britain in Prophecy, surely that too will be taught to all the world. It’s about the very throne Christ will be sitting on, along with the firstfruits. People will need to learn about that. That knowledge is going to fill this Earth! This double wonder is going to be a double wonder forever! It’s all about understanding the Bible—Christ in print—and understanding God the Father. That new throne will be there forever. And we will be sitting there with dual crowns on our heads!
Sons of God
In Hebrews 1:5, Paul quotes Psalm 2:7 and 2 Samuel 7:14: “For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?” God said these words to Christ, but He also said them to men.
Psalm 2:7 says, “I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.” This is a prophecy of Christ being begotten as a human being—but it is also true of all those who are called into God’s Church and begotten with the Holy Spirit!
In 2 Samuel 7:12-14, God promised David that Solomon would build Him a house, and then said, “I will be his father, and he shall be my son.” He didn’t say a father and a son—but his father and my son: God made it very personal! He never said that of an angel—but He said it of Solomon, and He said it of Christ—and He says it to you.
In Hebrews 1 and 2, over and over Paul juxtaposes angels next to “sons of God.” He is making a striking comparison. He wants you to think about this. It shows the magnitude of the potential God is giving us! Is it really true that God could give us so much? You’d have to say the Father sacrificing His Son answers that question with a resounding yes!
“But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?” (Hebrews 1:13-14). The angels will never sit at God’s right hand on the very throne of David! As brilliant and impressive as they are, they were never given such potential.
We are spiritually begotten, full-fledged members of the Family of God! God is re-creating Himself in us—which means we are going to be ruling with Him throughout eternity and over all the universe! The angels were never offered that. This is why mankind has marriage, sex and family, and the angels do not.
In Hebrews 2:6-8, Paul quotes King David: “But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him? Thou [God] madest him a little [while] lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not put under him.” God did put Earth in subjection under the angels, but they failed in their responsibility. God realized that to have other beings help Him in governing the universe, He would have to re-create Himself.
Read David’s meditation in Psalm 8:4-6, which Paul quoted. What IS man? David was thinking about God focusing so much attention on him. Compare our potential to that of the angels: We can become God beings! I’ll be his Father, and he shall be my son, the Father says. How far superior is God to an angel!
David was the one to whom God promised a throne. Now we have the new throne of David. God is creating a Family to rule over His Family and the universe for all eternity! This truth is so transcendent it is difficult to grasp—but we should be extremely excited about it!
In eight verses in these first two chapters, Paul says the angels were never given the potential of human beings (Hebrews 1:4-7, 13-14; 2:5, 7). That’s eight out of 32 verses—one fourth of them—about our potential being greater than that of the angels.
Look at how impressive the angels are! In 1 Chronicles 21:15, one angel had enough power to destroy Jerusalem! Revelation 1:20 describes the angels of the seven Church eras being like stars. They shine like the sun! Revelation 7:1-2 show angels “standing on the four corners of the earth,” doing work for God. Revelation 9:14-15 depict those angels having awesome power! Revelation 10:1-3 has an awesome description of a mighty angel with a face like the sun, feet as pillars of fire, and a voice of thunder—reaching into our lives through Malachi’s Message. Revelation 16 shows angels pouring out seven earth-destroying plagues!
These beings are so impressive—yet in the World Tomorrow, they are going to minister to us! We’re going to be much higher in position than they—your Bible says that clearly.
Have you ever noticed that whenever angels decide to try to overthrow God, God easily puts them down? Revelation 12:7-9 show how He simply hurled Satan and his demons to Earth and cleared the heavens of them! The righteous angels rejoiced to get rid of them—but now they are here, and they possess fearsome power. Still, it is nothing for God to defeat them in war! Lucifer ought to have known that. How do you fight the God who created you? That makes no sense—but many people rebel against God.
Paul illustrates how great our salvation is, and then in Hebrews 2:1-3, he warns, don’t let that slip! Don’t neglect that salvation!
Verses 10-11 show that God is bringing many sons to glory in the Family of God—and that Christ “is not ashamed to call them brethren”! God never said that about an angel!
Sons of Levi
In talking about what Christ is doing today, Paul talks about His priesthood. “So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, ‘Thou art my Son, today I have begotten thee’; as he says also in another place, ‘Thou art a priest for ever, after the order of Melchizedek’” (Hebrews 5:5-6; Revised Standard Version—quoting Psalm 110:4). Hebrews 5:10 repeats the fact that Christ was made “an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.”
In Hebrews 7, Paul contrasts the Melchizedek priesthood with that of Levi, the priesthood God established in ancient Israel. Verse 5 talks about “the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood.” Levi is another name Paul uses that has end-time prophetic resonance.
Anciently, Levi was the father of the priests. The Prophet Malachi shows that there was an end-time “Levi”—Herbert W. Armstrong. “And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the Lord of hosts. My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name. The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity [lawlessness] was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from [lawlessness]” (Malachi 2:4-6). God made a covenant with this man. Mr. Armstrong feared God, and God was able to use him to “restore all things”! (Matthew 17:11). He restored God’s government, most importantly—establishing it in the Church. He was a lawgiver to us; he turned many from lawlessness. What a blessing!
God honored that righteous man by making his prayer rock the new stone of destiny! Mr. Armstrong taught us all about our destiny: to be sons of God in the very Family of God—exactly what Paul was describing in Hebrews 1 and 2. If you follow God’s plan, that is your destiny.
God wants us to follow Levi’s example. “For the priest’s [should be priests’] lips should keep [or guard] knowledge, and they [the ministers] should seek the law at his [Levi’s] mouth: for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts” (Malachi 2:7). Where did we learn about God’s law and government? We have to seek that at Mr. Armstrong’s mouth and guard that knowledge God gave us through him. It came from the God of the universe—not a man!
Here God is specifically speaking to the ministers. They must guard that knowledge and seek the law at Mr. Armstrong’s mouth! But the wcg ministers did not fear God as Levi did, and they threw that spiritual treasure away. “But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the Lord of hosts” (verse 8). They had the very government of God, and they decided to “experiment” with other forms of government! What a terrible tragedy!
God says now those “sons of Levi” have to be purified. “But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness” (Malachi 3:2-3). Malachi shows that there is something very wrong with these “sons of Levi,” and they must be purified—all of them except the sons of Zadok. That will be the worst suffering ever on Earth!
So Paul’s reference to Levi also has prophetic relevance for our day.
Esau
Another related prophetic name Paul uses is Esau. This refers to Laodiceans who refuse to be purified!
Hebrews 12:15 reads, “Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.” Mr. Armstrong said bitterness is like heroin: Once you indulge in it, it’s nearly impossible to kick the habit! Many have become defiled by it. Don’t let it happen to you! Even physically, it is happening on a massive scale within American politics right now and is destroying the country!
“Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright” (verse 16). You can read Esau’s history in Genesis 25:29-34. In Malachi, God uses Esau as a type of the Laodiceans who reject God and will not repent: “And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste …” spiritually (Malachi 1:3). They sell their spiritual birthright: the right to be born into the Family of God and made the Bride of God’s Son—the highest reward God can give! Is there anything in this world that could lure you away from that? If we reject the new throne of David and new stone, we will lose everything! It does happen.
In Hebrews 10:26-29, Paul describes the fate awaiting these people: “a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.” God has sore punishment for anyone “who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace” (verse 29). They walked all over God and the wonderful family birthright He gave them; they are unimpressed with Jesus Christ shedding His blood for them! How can anyone turn away from the love God has shown us? Yet 50 percent of the Laodiceans are going to do it, because they become bitter and can’t recover. We must make sure this doesn’t happen to us.
Melchizedek
Hebrews 7:11 continues the comparison between the Levitical and Melchizedek priesthood: “If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?” This is what Christ, our High Priest, is doing now.
Melchizedek had a dual crown. He was a priest (Psalm 110:4), and he was also a king (Genesis 14:18). He is the only one in the Bible who fulfilled both those offices—that is, until Zechariah 6, where Joshua is given a dual crown. “Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest” (Zechariah 6:11).
God placed this crown within His own Church in this end time as a way of showing all of us more deeply our potential and what God is about to give every one of His faithful firstfruit saints! We are king-priests and will all have dual crowns very soon! If we remain loyal, we will be at headquarters for eternity, helping Christ rule the whole world, both church and state, and eventually the universe! God has given us everything to help us focus on what we are about to receive and how we will be able to serve God and serve this world.
Jesus Christ will return to Earth as “King of kings” (Revelation 17:14; 19:16). Anyone who believes the Bible recognizes that. But how many realize what that means? Christ is King, but who are these other “kings”? That is you! Those are the firstfruits who will be right there with Jesus Christ returning to this Earth!
Paul didn’t understand the depth in Hebrews. How could he, living at the time he did? But God used him to lay out this message for us to help us understand more deeply what this new throne of David is all about!
Link With Jeroboam
In November 2016, I called a Church-wide fast for the growth of God’s Work to be held on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017. We asked God to give the Work growth, and look what He gave us: That was when God revealed about the new stone and the new throne!
Just four days later, Donald Trump was inaugurated as president of the United States. Did you ever wonder why God gave us the new throne of David at essentially the same time that the modern-day Jeroboam came to power? Here are three reasons why God linked these two events.
1) It gives us the time frame of the Jeroboam end. In Amos 7:8-9, God warns, “Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more: And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.” Note that! God is giving one final warning before this terrible destruction. He will publish His message one last time, and they either respond, or it is over.
And in this context, He talks about Jeroboam. His final warning comes in the Jeroboam context. Babylon awaits you if you don’t hear this last message of God! Terrible times are coming on three nations, and this prophecy all happens in that Jeroboam time frame.
Think about this. The prophecy of Jeroboam in Amos 7 indicates that the Tribulation will begin in the next one to five years. We can’t even rule out next year. That’s a frightening time frame for three nations of Israel! God views it as just moments away! This is one of the most urgent warnings in the Bible!
In verse 10, a religious leader approaches Jeroboam and reports against God’s faithful remnant Church. We are right in the midst of this prophecy of nation-destroying events! We are delivering a terrifying warning that the people will not appreciate! It’s not just the leaders they’re trying to get to; they want the people that are doing this Work out of here! They want people who believe in this message that’s discouraging so many people to get out of the land they’re in.
The verses that follow describe a direct confrontation between Amaziah, the false religious leader, and God’s prophet. Amaziah says, “O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there: But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court” (verses 12-13). This is the real problem! Jeroboam has people, including religious people, following him rather than God! They are promoting a false religion over the truth of God!
This points right back to the sin of the original Jeroboam, who rejected the throne of David (1 Kings 12:16, 19, 26). And in our day, this man is going to reject the new throne of David.
Hebrews points us to Habakkuk and the double wonder. And part of that double wonder, the new throne, is going to condemn the way of Jeroboam and his religious supporters. As a result, we will be thrown out of the country. So our going to the place of safety parallels the end of Jeroboam’s rule. I think the national downfall happens almost immediately after the “outcasts” are cast out. So how long will that new throne be in Manasseh? I believe it will end almost immediately when the Tribulation strikes.
2) So we can warn three nations about Jeroboam’s sin.1 Kings 11:29-39 and 12:25-26, 31 show that Jeroboam was told to stay with David’s throne, yet he installed lowly people in the ministry whom he could control. He really rigged everything. He did not want Israel to go back to Jerusalem because he feared they would be won over by Rehoboam, and then would come back and kill him. He had to keep them away from the throne and house of David. That was his great sin.
In Micah 1:5, it’s called the “transgression of Jacob.” “Is it not Samaria?” And it’s talking about turning away from the house of David.
1 Kings 12:16 and 19 say, “So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.” They’re still in rebellion! See, they’re not just rebelling in the past—they’re rebelling against the house of David to this day!
He “rent Israel from the house of David,” it says in 2 Kings 17, and Jeroboam “made them sin a great sin” (verses 20-22). He drove Israel from following the Lord and made them sin a great sin because they turned against the house of David. So that’s the great sin that we have to show Israel today.
3) It brings Elijah into it.He wrote The United States and Britain in Prophecy. And his prayer rock is the stone of destiny today—a symbol of David’s throne! God now combines the scepter and the lawgiver, and the old throne simply isn’t adequate to introduce the righteous, perfect Jesus Christ to this world. It’s not good enough for the Father; it’s not good enough for the Son. This is all screamingly urgent! Consider: one to five years, then add another 3½ years to that, and it is still less than a decade. How much time is there left? God is now measuring in moments in the Jeroboam end.
It is urgent, and God says, Go to the Jews and tell them, “Behold your God!” (Isaiah 40:9). Considering how few years until Christ gets here, isn’t it time to say, “Behold your God!” Somebody must tell them! And we have been chosen to do that.
Isaiah 9:6-7 say, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.
