Gerald Flurry

Gerald Flurry is the pastor general of the Philadelphia Church of God. He has been an ordained minister for over 50 years. Mr. Flurry is editor in chief of the Philadelphia Trumpet newsmagazine. He serves as chancellor of Herbert W. Armstrong College and chairman of the Armstrong International Cultural Foundation.

Mr. Flurry formerly served under Herbert W. Armstrong as a minister in the Worldwide Church of God, pastoring the Oklahoma City and Enid, Oklahoma, congregations. He was fired and excommunicated from the Worldwide Church of God on December 7, 1989, for resisting sweeping doctrinal changes that moved the Church away from the doctrines taught by WCG founder Herbert W. Armstrong.

Mr. Flurry recognized these disturbing changes and explained their prophetic implications in his seminal and most important book, Malachi’s Message. This book was written to alert the WCG ministry and its members to the changes underway in the Church. When an early draft of the book was presented to WCG leadership, Mr. Flurry and his assistant, John Amos, were fired.

Mr. Flurry immediately founded the Philadelphia Church of God to protect and perpetuate God’s truth as it was revealed and taught by Mr. Armstrong.

Gerald Flurry Delivers a Message

Since December 1989, Mr. Flurry has preached the news that Jesus Christ will intervene to save mankind in this generation, while also delivering a warning message to God’s Church about the doctrinal changes he resisted.

He has done this through his television program, The Key of David, which began airing in 1993 and originated as a radio program called God’s Future World. It first aired on eight stations and now airs worldwide on more than 200. Mr. Flurry uses his 30-minute program to explain world events in light of Bible prophecy. Episodes include “Why Most People Don’t Understand Bible Prophecy,” “Matthew 24 Unlocks the Seven Seals,” “The Ultimate Key to Success” and “Putin Remembers Yugoslavia.”

The Philadelphia Trumpet magazine is the other major outlet for his message. As editor in chief, Mr. Flurry oversees the magazine’s direction and contributes articles to it. This work has taken Mr. Flurry to more than 20 countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Israel, South Africa, the Philippines, China and Australia. He has also written more than 60 books and booklets, all distributed freely as an educational service.

Gerald Flurry: Following in the
Steps of Herbert W. Armstrong

A crucial part of Gerald Flurry’s commission is to follow the example and teachings of Herbert W. Armstrong, much like the Prophet Elisha followed the example of the Prophet Elijah.

This is why Mr. Flurry, in 1996, decided to publish Mr. Armstrong’s pivotal book, Mystery of the Ages, and later, other literature. The WCG, however, used its copyrights to sue the PCG in an effort to keep those books out of circulation. This led to a six-year legal battle that ended in a settlement giving the PCG the copyrights and freedom to reprint Mystery of the Ages and 18 other works. At the time, Mr. Flurry called it “the greatest victory we have ever won in the PCG.”

Following the pattern set by Herbert W. Armstrong, Mr. Flurry founded a small liberal arts college in 2001: Herbert W. Armstrong College. Privately supported by the Philadelphia Church of God, it offers courses in theology, liberal arts, applied arts and sciences, with the goal of teaching students the godly way of life.

When Herbert Armstrong’s successors in the WCG ended the Ambassador International Cultural Foundation, Mr. Flurry founded the Armstrong International Cultural Foundation (formally named the Philadelphia Foundation) to carry on its work. The foundation serves as the humanitarian arm of the Philadelphia Church of God, centered on Armstrong Auditorium, which hosts world-class performing artists through its concert series.

Mr. Flurry has also established the Armstrong Institute of Biblical Archaeology, a nonprofit academic and educational institution that aims to showcase Israel’s biblical archaeology. Through this institute, Mr. Flurry continues the legacy of Mr. Armstrong’s support of Israel and his keen interest in archaeological activities and education.
