TEXAS—On August 9, the Sulphur Springs congregation, along with a few members from the Houston congregation and Local Elder Jason Hensley and his wife, Jessica, met for an event-filled congregational picnic at Tyler State Park.

Although the weather was warm and sunny with temperatures in the mid-90s, the tall pine trees provided refreshing shade for outdoor activities that included a 2.5-mile nature walk around the crisp, clean water of Tyler State Park Lake. Members shared uplifting conversation and took in beautiful scenery along the trail while others played cornhole and ladder ball.

After the hike, the women prepared a mouthwatering potluck in the much-appreciated air-conditioning of an event hall. The meal included fruit, salads, burgers, hot dogs and a delicious selection of homemade desserts.

Local deacon Kelly Havens led the grilling team, assisted by accomplished chef Aaron Eagle, preparing the meat and hot dogs. At one point, the smoky aroma attracted a family of raccoons that tried to sneak up on the sizzling burgers. Their plan quickly changed when local member Gerald Beshir sent a well-aimed pinecone in their direction.

After lunch in the hall, the brethren enjoyed hiking, fellowship and card games such as rummy and hearts. The event concluded with a refreshing swim in the lake. After cleaning the hall, members left, remarking that they are already looking forward to their next picnic with God’s Family. It was a blessing to spend a relaxing day together in a beautiful outdoor setting and enjoy wonderful fellowship.
