MARYLAND—On July 19, the Frederick Spokesman Club had a formal Ladies’ Gala event at the colonial Dutchess Daughter Restaurant in Frederick, Maryland.

The theme for the year was “Rising Lions,” established by the club director, Preaching Elder Joseph Short.

Club president Luis Rosario said, “This royal event has really emphasized the value and importance of how Spokesman Club can enable us to grow as men and leaders for God.”

Vice president John Borden, who led the topics session, commented on the venue’s regal atmosphere, remarking, “I’m so thankful to be a part of this royal calling and for how smoothly and orderly everything went throughout the event to give our ladies a great time and to show them how much we appreciate their sacrifice throughout the year.”

The event had a “rise and rise again” courage and boldness theme throughout, from the presidential opening remarks to the director’s final lecture. Three speeches were given to the club on topics of how to handle and prepare freshly cut flowers, how to properly establish plants, and to work on improving our overall health.

Mr. Short evaluated each speech and, with the assistance of Local Elder David Miller, awarded certificates to this year’s graduates: Nathaniel Chukwurah and Larry Thompson.

In his closing lecture, Mr. Short focused on how Jesus Christ is a refiner of fine gold and silver, and He will not give up until he sees His own righteous reflection staring back at Him in His church. He quoted Elbert Hubbard, who wrote in A Message to Garcia, “Get radioactive,” referring to the need to make a difference in families and congregations. He also related the “Rising Lion” theme to the fact that Jesus Christ, The Lion of the Tribe of Judah, must rise in true Christians to make them as bold as lions.

The event concluded with warm laughs and fellowship reminiscing another marvelous club year, followed by a group club photo to remember the occasion.
