ARIZONA—Forty-five members from three congregations of the Philadelphia Church of God participated in a pine car derby in Scottsdale on January 9. The race included a variety of ages, decorated cars, commentary by Preaching Elder Andrew Hessong, the national anthem, and observers cheering on each race.
After the national anthem, the race ensued. Preaching Elder Andrew Hessong provided commentary throughout the night, while observers cheered for each car.
Abby Bancroft, age 5, said her friend Tessa Clayton’s (age 4) car was “super cute!”
“It was a lot of fun to see what people came up with,” teen Hannah Worrell said.
Car names included: “Unfinished Business,” “Starry Night,” “8 Cylinder” and “The Procrastinator.”
Track records were established and broken. First place went to Marc Michel, second place went to Jacob Hessong, and third place went to Jimi Hochstetler.
