On Sunday, July 12, the Sacramento Philadelphia Church of God congregation had a picnic and send-off party for Xandre Swygert, who will be traveling to Herbert W. Armstrong College in Edmond, Oklahoma, in a few weeks as an incoming freshman. The picnic was held at the William Land Regional Park, loved by locals for its mature urban forest. The brethren conversed, enjoyed lunch and had fun playing games under the canopy of trees.

Family unity was strengthened, and almost everyone in the congregation attended. Some members traveled from as far as Nevada, and some visitors came from Texas and Colombia. Preaching Elder Greg Nice mentioned that the event is a great opportunity for the brethren to spend time together in a more casual setting. Angelica Estebat shared the same sentiment and said she appreciated getting to know the ministry and brethren in a more relaxed, family environment and seeing the “fun” side of people.

Justin Goodearl said he is thankful for answered prayers for good weather. The forecast was sunny and hot, but God provided cooler temperatures, cloud cover and occasional breezes.

After having a delicious lunch, a special cake decorated with Xandre’s photo was enjoyed. Paul MacFarland said it was good to be able to acknowledge that one of our own is heading to AC. Xandre has been attending the Sacramento congregation, with his mother, Minnie, since he was 6 years old. Xandre expressed his thanks for the love and affection the brethren had shown him.

With full bellies and hearts, the brethren continued fellowshipping and playing games in the afternoon. A bouncy castle was set up for the young children, who spent their newly gained energy in there. Members, along with Mr. Nice joining in, played the last and most thrilling volleyball match of the day. Around 3 o’clock, members headed home, in time to watch the livestream of Celtic Throne II.
