PHILIPPINES—On February 1, the couples of the Angeles City, Philippines, Philadelphia Church of God congregation enjoyed an activity with the theme “Classy 1920s.” For the first time, the organizers for the event were the congregation’s singles and youth, with 30 singles and five teens serving the 14 couples in attendance at the PCG Philippines office property.
Couples arriving were welcomed with appetizers, and photos were taken to capture their 1920s-style attire. Couples dined on a five-course meal with music from a live jazz band, danced, and enjoyed each other’s company. Live performances were sprinkled throughout the evening, including jazz flute and jazz songs sung by singles. The night ended with a surprise performance from a group of husbands who sang a song dedicated to their wives.
Head organizer Wesley Rodis said that the main goal for the staff was to focus on the couples and to give them a truly special evening.
After the event, Preaching Elder Broderick Tongco thanked and congratulated the organizers for the memorable event. “We all came home with our hearts smiling,” he said. “We loved everything about it—the theme, the ambiance, delicious food, bar drinks, excellent professional service, the band and music, the camaraderie! All of our senses were engaged, not to mention the fellowship opportunities, being able to dance on the grass with our spouses and more.”
“We’re so full,“ Jean Paul Lumpay said. “Full from the food, but especially full from the service and hard work put into this activity.”
Nestelene Onato and several other wives said that they “will never forget” the activity.
But it was not only the couples who left the event with warm and joyful hearts. Many of the singles who staffed the activity said they found happiness and fulfillment in serving the couples.
“It was a great pleasure to serve the couples in that capacity,” single Arvin Iglesias said. “It was an effective way to draw the singles and couples closer.”
Celeste Bolhano stated, “It was truly an honor and a privilege to serve and, at last, give back to the couples, expressing our love and gratitude for being such godly role models. It was a wonderful night, and being able to make them feel special was truly a delight.”
