NEW YORK—The Niles, Ohio; Buffalo, New York; and Morgantown, West Virginia, congregations of the Philadelphia Church of God gathered together on June 1 and 2, for a Ladies’ Gala weekend of family, fun, and “the falls.”
The weekend began with a Sabbath service at the Niagara Riverside Resort in Niagara Falls, where members were treated to a view of the Niagara River while taking in messages from Local Elder Calvin Culpepper and Regional Director Brian Davis, centered around relentless drive through godly decision-making, epitomized by the river rushing by just outside the windows.
Deacon Charles Sclavunos organized a “truly Buffalo” experience, a family-style dinner at the Anchor Bar Restaurant, the birthplace of the original Buffalo wing.
Mrs. Gwen Davis said it was “not a typical restaurant dinner …. It was different, family-oriented, and fun.”
The next day, the Niles Spokesman Club held a Ladies’ Gala at the resort. The first half of the event included remarks from club president Steve Coppola and a topics session given by Michael Davis. After a plated lunch, vice president Matthew Castillo introduced speeches for Gary Farkas, Nathan Weese, Bob Nutting and Bruce Zabrecky. Mr. Culpepper presented club graduate certificates to Adam Williams, Matthew Castillo and Jared Zollner before turning over the proceedings to Mr. Davis, the club director, for a lecture encouraging everyone to confidently move forward in making godly decisions.
It was time to cap off the weekend with family fun at Niagara Falls State Park. Members took in the scenery, rode trolleys around the park, learned about the history of Niagara Falls and came within inches of the falls on the “Cave of the Winds” trail.
