FLORIDA—Forty-five members of the Philadelphia Church of God attended the second annual Florida seniors’ dinner on January 28 at the meeting hall of the Florida Central congregation in Dade City. Fifteen young adults and teenagers from the congregation served a four-course meal while seniors listened to a lecture by Preaching Elder John Cocomise about their responsibility in the Church.
Senior Yvonne Castillo said she “loved the participation of the young folk, as they obviously really enjoyed serving us.”
In his opening remarks, Preaching Elder John Cocomise reminded the seniors of the valuable life experiences God had granted them and of their responsibility to share those experiences with the younger generations. In God’s families, “the seniors teach the younger, and the younger honor their seniors,” he said.
After the lecture, the seniors watched a video of Herbert W. Armstrong hosting graduating college seniors at his home in 1984, followed by stand-up comedy from senior Jerry Pattillo about the humor in growing old. The final film of the evening showed the grand lobby of Ambassador Auditorium as the final measures of Handel’s Messiah played: “King of Kings, and Lord of Lords … and He shall reign forever and ever!”
