ZIMBABWE—Thirty brethren from the Harare congregation, along with two members from Malawi and Kenya, gathered at Rest Haven for their first social of the year on February 15.
Assistant Pastor for Africa George Githembe opened the event with a prayer, after which the group gathered on the volleyball court.
Member Aaron Basani is one of several members who live outside Harare; he was in the capital to meet Mr. Githembe and Associate Pastor John Macdonald.
“For me, this social is a special event as I stay in a rural area, far away from other members,” Basani said. “This is a wonderful opportunity to meet God’s people and God’s ministers.”
Brethren had time to fellowship, while enjoying a braai (barbecue) and snacks prepared by a group led by deacon John Rudolph Sr.
“I was amazed by the perfect timing in which everything was done,” member John Rudolph Jr. said. “We had time for a sack race, soccer and playing cards before a light rain shower came down to help us cool down after a lot of running and activities.”
After the rain cleared, the youths in attendance happily ran to the swimming pool. Parents and older members watched and cheered the children on, as most of them were only just learning to swim.
Claudious Zheyu called the get-together “a perfect outing.”
